I never really had any social media as a kid, at least not any traditional social media apps (I had YouTube), and especially nowadays given the constant advertising and just garbage nonsense content, I don't really feel the need to try any. That being said, I still wanted somewhere I could put things online and a website was an obvious choice.
New problem: I didn't know anything about anything when it comes to making websites. I knew I didn't want to use one of those graphical tools cause I didn't really need that much complexity and I felt like they would just add unnecessary bloat, but I also wanted to be able to have different pages for different things as well as expandability, so I didn't want to use one of those info card page things either. Basically, my only option was to make something myself and host it myself.
I think one of the best ways you can learn html and css is to look up any tutorial series and while reading through it, you also create an html file that you add to with whatever the tutorial is talking about. I have a folder with all the files I used to learn this way and it's an absolute mess but it's great because you can learn what things are while making use of them. I also used it to refer back to a couple of times while making this site.
